Hello Friends,
With this blog of mine I wanted to be different. I actually did not know what should I do or write about to be different. Then an idea struck me. I thought why not to post my drawing which i had done...( one of my hobbies). These drawing are no ordinary drawings. They have a history behind them, which made me curious to learn this particular art of drawing. I am yet to colour this art. Colouring this is not an easy task as there is a restriction in usage of colours. Only particular colours are used here.
Below is the painting of Lord RAM.
Below is the painting of Devi Sita.
If you observe keenly, there is a distinct style of drawing various things. This kind of drawing is known as MADHUBANI painting.
ORIGIN
Madhubani painting is also known as Mithila Painting. Tradition states that this style of painting originated at the time of the Ramayana, when King Janak commissioned artists to do paintings at the time of marriage of his daughter, Sita, to Lord Ram.
Madhubani painting has been done traditionally by the women of villages around the present town of Madhubani (the literal meaning of which is forests of honey) and other areas of Mithila. The painting was traditionally done on freshly plastered mud wall of huts, but now it is also done on cloth, hand-made paper and canvas.
As Madhubani painting has remained confined to a compact geographical area and the skills have been passed on through centuries, the content and the style have largely remained the same. The colors used are derived from plants. Ochre and lampblack are also used for reddish brown and black respectively.
Madhubani paintings mostly depict nature and Hindu religious motifs, and the themes generally revolve around Hindu deities.
Above was the information on the art. Now, I request you all to help of me think of a story and help me write something, by seeing those 2 drawings. It could be an imaginary story or something related to mythology or your beliefs... Could be anything, even relating them to present culture and thoughts. I would wait for the feedback.

Hey Rupa, first of all thanks for refreshing the old memories...in fact, I remember reading about this type of painting while I was on the train back home sometime back. You are right! There are a lot of significance between the type of painting and the reality. About your query on what to write on your artistic craftsmanship, I suggest, you can write on why do Hindu marriages have such paintings on the wall or something like, the relationship between these paintings and the reality of life..Good luck!!!
As everyone has their own view ...I can suggest you if you arrange pictures in a sequential manner that it self will describe the story ..people will come with their own words to understand the story and it may happen that people will write the stories for you on that ..u need to modify the story if required ..thats all my suggestion
Hi,
after reading abt the paintings and the art beneath it, the first thing which i felt was a good effort to preserve and recognize our ancient arts. And added to that, u yourself drew these which signifies "Deeds are better than words" A big Cheers to u :)
Well, u asked to suggest a story, and i am just expressing what came to my mind on the first glimpse of the paintings. The two pics depict two famous and admirable characters of epic of Ramayana, Lord Ram and Devi Sita. People never could have imagined them in solidarity. SITA-RAM are like a single word, having two characters so interwoven into each other that thinking of one without the other makes no sense. And in your pics they are alone. I think the next pic in the series would be a duo of these two. when we talk abt Lord Ram, we say he was "Purushottam" meaning "the ideal man". And here comes the role of "dharma" in moulding our ethical values. It portrays before us the ideal personality and traits to imbibe into ones own self. And Devi Sita denotes an ideal lady.
May be i am deviating from the topic but as i said, i am expressing what i felt :)
Take care and if u could get some idea for your writing from my comment then do give me a feedback on my feedback :)
